Like
most people my age, I'm a pretty big fan of Rob's old band, White Zombie,
and I was anxious to hear what Rob could do on his own. His new band,
featuring his old drummer from White Zombie, the guitarist and bassist
from fellow metal-enthusiasts Prong (so the rumor goes...altough the names aren't the same), and a host of guest artists, including
Tommy Lee(yes, that Tommy Lee...) and Charlie Clauser and Danny Lohner
from Nine Inch Nails, has helped him churn out a pretty dern good album.
The two members
from Prong(rumor, mind you) obviously had quite some effect on the final sound of this album.
With less bass and heavier, crashing guitars, the album sounds less like
White Zombie and more like Ministry(and that's not an altogether bad thing).
The themes and lyrics of the album still reflect Rob's fascination with
the occult.
Speaking
of lyrics, amazingly enough, I can actually understand them. Most
White Zombie albums, I can't make out word one, but this one, I even catch
myself singing along.
Overall,
a very good album, though I miss the funky bass lines of White Zombie,
I am also a big fan of Ministry. I'll give it an 8.
