Free Speech In America
By Tim.
The so-called Bill of Rights in America is nothing more than a document that keeps people from asking questions. It seems that whenever people try to exercise their freedom of speech, people are lining up to shut them down. The only time we truly have freedom of speech is when nothing controversial is said. Should it be forbidden that people have different opinions or that some people think out of the ordinary, when ordinary is a subjective term. This country now treats individuality as a sickness that is in need of treatment. I believe that we need to embrace more of that individuality than to discourage it. This country's educational system need to embrace creative-thinking. We need to stop instilling a competitive nature in all forms of life. Why should we teach kids to destroy when it would be just as easy to teach them how to create? The problem is that it's out of the normal actions of society. The point is, that people are afraid to question the system for fear of criticism or other forms of judgement. We should not be punished for questioning society. People say not to make waves on calm waters, in other words they are saying that we shouldn't voice our opinions. I don't really care if my opinions disturb some uptight preacher, because the constitution that we have all grown to know and love gives me the right to say whatever I damn well please.
