THE HISTORY OF THE GREAT TWINK-E RECALL--

I (Jesse) think it was January 29th that the show choir "Joyful Noise" put their annual concert on in 1998. I went because my girlfriend Jenna is in the show choir. Ryan was in it too. And Jenny, and Trevor Luikart. I went to the post show party with my girlfriend. We ended up on a couch watching television. Before that--Ryan had an idea for a ska band--he wanted Jenny and Trevor in it and he had a few friends in his high school jazz band that would play too. At the post party, Ryan finally got up enough courage to ask me to play in it. For some reason, he didn't think that I would want to.

So a few days later, we all (including Andy, Charlie, Justin, and Chad) got together to learn a song. Some of you may know the group "The Mighty Mighty Bosstones". We tried to learn "The Impression that I Get." Pretty successfully, too. The first two songs we had written were "Talk Show Host" and "Some Days I Try", written by Trevor and Chad repectively. Then I wrote "Guilty", which Ryan wrote the lyrics for. We also had learned a few covers also--like "Shot Gun Jimmy" and "Someday I Suppose." We were ready to play Kenston's talent show...

Kenston's talent show was our first show--and it went great. We wrote "The Pie Shoppe" and "Kiss Me I'm Stupid." We decided to pit ourselves against other Cleveland area bands in Peabody's Battle of the Bands. The show went really well again--but we lost to another pretty good Cleveland ska band--Dandy Viking Crew--(Check out their web site too).

Peabody's noticed that we sold so many tickets, so they invited us back to play with Monster Island, and the Bob Jenkins ensemble. We jumped at the chance to play an actual show. Once again--we sold a lot of tickets. MANY THANKS TO THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN TO OUR SHOWS--THIS HAS ALL BEEN MADE POSSIBLE BY YOU AND WE LOVE YOU FOR IT!!!!!! We kept getting invited back by Peabody's to play with local bands until we got the chance to open for a national band known as "Johnny Socko". I don't think they're around anymore. I'm not sure though. Anyway, it was kind of a slow show, not many people came--but we still had lots of fun. Pretty soon we started playing around a lot more in '99. Charlie and Justin went to Kent, so they weren't too far to come home and practice occasionally. We have played with The Twist-Offs, Sax-A-Tromba, Monster Island, and other great local Cleveland bands.

An interesting thing happened in early 99, however. The band went on a unagreed upon hiatus. For some reason things started falling apart. Some of us think it was because Jenny and Trevor broke up--I don't think that's it though. Who knows? We all have our reasons for different things. Anyway, after the JN show in '99, Trevor left on amicable terms to be a DJ.

In March we decided we wanted to get things rolling again. I had this friend, Jay Baskette, that wanted to play drums in a punk/ska group. So I told him about our band. In early March, we had our first practice with him. Two weeks later we played Peabody's again. It was great. Things really did get rolling again. We got to play The Agora, and pretty soon we were playing close to two gigs a week in the summer, and recorded 11 song in late July.

But then, the time for Jenny and me to go to college was coming up. Jenny had decided to go to Bowling Green State University. Jesse, being stupid again, decided to go to the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. What the hell was he thinking. But right now, things are looking good again...We have an album coming out in early December, and a couple gigs already lined up. We are working on touring the East coast with the Vans Warped Tour 2000, and Peabody's says we are "The most wanted ska band in Cleveland". I am also working on getting our music played on the first rock station ever--WMMS 100.7 FM Cleveland, Ohio. If you haven't heard of us yet---you will...

We'll see you then at your local super arena...
