This page I wish to express a real true to life case history of a paitent, a 40 year old woman, in great health that turned tragic. This will most likely take two web pages. But here goes...... A 40 year old woman that was very athletlic went to her doctor for a very sharp cramping without relief. The craming in the stomach was intense and constant. This was new to her. She was not exhibiting any flu-like symptoms to her knowledge. Not being medicallly knowledgeable, when the doctor told her to go home and rest and take lots of fluids, she did. She thought the Emergency Room doctor would know what he was taking about. This woman go worse and went back to the emergency room. On the first visit, they did no xrays, no sonogram, no CT. She was just given Tylenol and told to go home and rest. This is a woman that swam every day in the summer, as the winters in the mid-west are very cold. One the second visit, the emergency room took xrays and a sonogram this time. This woman had suffered pain for one week before this visit. She came into the emergency room this time because she was hemmorrhaging massive amounts of blood. So.....this woman waas told she needed too see a specialist. She was referred to a General Surgeon. He did more tests and told her she needed surgery. Her husband, not knowing what to do, called his sister, who is a nurse, asking advice. The nurse told him what questions to ask the doctor. The nurse was out of state, far away, and was going to fly there as soon as she could get a ticket. The patient was told she needed surgery, ASAP, and not to wait to have it. The husband asked many questions. So.....the surgery was done, they were told there was cancer, and that the doctorr got all he could "see with the naked eye". This was not understood, so the husband called the nurse, his sister, then asked what was meant by "see with the naked eye". The sister told him to ask the doctor if he got all the cancer, if there was more left in her, and what the doctor suggested they do next. The husband went back to the docotor, asked the doctor these questions. Well........the doctor said he cut out all the cancer cells greater that 2 cm. big. So that left cells under 2 cm. to grow inside this patient. Can you guess what the outcome of all this was? The doctor then told him that she would have to undergo chemotherapy and radiation therapy. He told the spouse she would be alright. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

Now......the nurse was called again by the husband saying his wife was vomiting all the time. The chemotherapy and the radiation had not been started yet. She is 2 days out from the surgery, has not been able to eat at all yet, vomits after all liquids she tried to take in. She was told she could go home. The husband did not know what to do, so he called the nurse again. | Now......the nurse was on her way to the state where they lived. The patient never made it out of the hospital. She had a complete hysterectomy done, several tumors taken out of the abdomen, and no IV Nutritional Support given to the patient. She was not able to take in any foods or liquids. The 40 year old athlete died from a very aggressive cancer. What would have helped her to live.........The Emergency Room miss diagnosed her on the first visit. Any woman in child bearing years, should be checked with an untrasound to see if there is an Etopic Pregnancy, and/or for any Ovarian Cycts. This was not done on the first visit. Then.....the docotor should have performed what is called a Whipple Surgery. That is where all areas touched by a cancer cell would be cut out. Surgery is the ONLY cure all for cancer. That was not done. He left cells smaller that 2 cm. There should have been TPN IV given through a central line. She should have been in ICU for a week, at least, then moved to another surgical floor after that. That was not done. She was told to eat right away. WRong! She just had massive surgery throughtout the abdomen and all reproductive areas. Well....in any case, this lady iis now dead and burried. She may have lived, had the ER taken care of her properly. The moral to the story. Ask all the questions you can. See if this will CURE the problem.
