Journey To The Light
Learning at a young age how to hide, not to show our true colours, never
opening up
Becoming frozen in the depths of a never ending winter, a flower ever
dormant
Existing without purpose, finding new ways to avoid exhibiting that their
is life within
Never feeling warmth, always avoiding the changing of the seasons
In an ice age, never envisioning the new life that will accompany spring
Warm winds occasionally appear from without causing an unwanted thaw in
the ice
Always the breeze is discontinued for there is a cunning, baffling,
powerful magic at work
The threat of completely losing touch with the warmth is finally too much
for many of the wastes' inhabitants
Fighting free of the magic hold they begin their journey to a warmer
climate
The road is long and treacherous, however as the days get warmer their
spirits are lightened
The light and warmth bring about changes in the wanderers, they begin to
experience new sensations
Some are grateful for the new found feelings, but they are foreign
causing others to fear them
Those that are afraid are overcome, they will go no further, satisfied
with the old ways they cease the expedition
The new settlers forget what the old ways will bring about if they tarry
to long
Saddened by the loss of their comrades the remaining travellers continue
their journey only stopping to rest
More settle along the way fearing to go further, however many will
continue, having become aware of the consequences
Those that continue realize that the journey has no end only brief
respite, lest they tire and cannot continue
The expedition becomes a lonely one, each finds their own path, however
the rewards are great and they continue
Heartened by the light they know lies ahead and their new found strength
they endure
Perhaps some day they will encounter the light and the journey will end,
none of them can say for sure
