Basic Training

From the very beginning his path is well laid out

His instruction begins, he need be devout

To exhibit little emotion, and to keep all well hid

And to carry on with that which his sire has bid

Suppressing all sensations he learns to be stone

He sheds not a tear lest he is alone

Still feeling passion, but not showing much

Not getting close, and avoiding a kind touch

Wearing his mask he remains quite elusive

He harbours a conception that he is exclusive

Trained to fight feeling, learning little of love

Experiencing nothing within, no thoughts from above

Daily he strengthens and nurtures his will

Hardens his heart and grows harsher still

He progresses through life becoming all the more petty

At last our proud young warrior is ready

His mind is set he's grown exceedingly strong

But as time shifts, something feels wrong

Trained to ignore it, he has begun his demise

He is becoming aware that his training is lies

Realizing that he must reverse what was taught

He'll commence a new life where emotion is sought

Letting open his heart to permit awareness inside

Beginning to realize, he has little to hide

Now he will see that it is only the gallant

Who show what they feel for they are the valiant

And perhaps some day he will discern that it's true

That emotions are noble, and men are human too
