She holds my hands
As I lash out in anger
for no reason at all.
She thinks I don’t deserve it
the punishment I give myself
every time my anger rises.
the destruction I create
she stops
And she holds my hands

She holds my hands
even when I fight her off
when I tell her no
I have to do it
she tells me different
and stops the madness
that controls my mind
And she holds my hands.

She holds my hands
even when I hide  them from her
She can see them with her heart
And without a word
She takes them in her own
And I struggle
But she just holds on tighter
And I’m forced to deal with it
And she holds my hands

She held my hands
until I learned to hold them myself
And stepped in every once in awhile
When I forgot everything I was taught
When I couldn’t hold them myself
And she held my hands

She stopped holding my hands
so slowly
that I didn’t notice
until I needed her
to hold my hands
And she wasn’t there
hasn’t been there
never will be there again
To hold my hands

I hold my own hands now
A promise that’s been broken
denies her help
And I wonder
if she’ll ever be there again
To hold my hands

But I just remember
the times she held my hands
When I lashed out in anger
When I pushed her away
When I told her no
And pray
there will be a day
when she holds my hands
once more.
