I once had a life and a home
It was made up of sadness and pain
It was the only life that I had known
And it nearly drove me insane

One day the walls came crumbling down
With pieces shattering all around me
Destroying the little bit I had
And tearing apart my family

I was at the breaking point
The very bottom of despair
When a stranger came along
Showing me concern and care

It wasn’t very long ago
But he means the world to me
He couldn’t begin to understand
How much he’s done for me

He was so very patient
As he listened to my pain
He has become my very dear friend
Who helped me “smile” again

I felt trapped with no hope for escape
It was this stranger who set me free
I would have remained completely lost
Without the compassion he showed me

By giving me the courage
To seek a new life of my own
He gave me strength
Something I had never known

He made me realize my ambition
To explore a world, out on my own
His gift was more than mere friendship
He gave me the hospitality of his home

He says he is just a simple man
But he is so much more than that to me
I’ve been truly blessed to have known him
Even if to his heart, I do not have the key

There was a kind of love for us,
It’s just the “magic” wasn’t there
But there will be a very special bond
That the two of us will always share

He is searching for that someone special,
A soul mate to the end
I sincerely pray his dreams come true,
My best wishes to my dearest friend

From here I don’t know what path
My life will be heading down
But I have no regrets,
And I won’t be turning around

I will remember the lessons
The laughter and the smiles
No matter where I am
Or how many miles

He has a place in my heart
And that will NEVER change
Even if there is distance between us
And I am out of range

I can never repay him
For all that he has done
I just want him to know
That I am the Lucky One
