It breaks my heart to see you cry,
Each time it happens I ask myself why,
You feel enough pain to drive you to weep,
Caused by actions of mine, for your heart just to keep.

I'm scared of the loss of your love on one day,
That I put up great barriers to keep it this way,
So you find your restrained, never able to breath,
While I'm safe in the knowledge that my side you won't leave.

I should let you run free, see the world for yourself,
But I'm scared of the loneliness and being left on the shelf,
When you realise what you're missing, how much love there's to give,
For without you, my darling, I just couldn't live.
