Natural
Resources
|
Almighty Allah has endowed Bangladesh with some rich
natural resources. Natural
gas with 97 percent methane content has been
found in huge quantity in different parts of the country.
total gas reserve is estimated to be about 12.42 trillion
cubic feet. A total of 23 gas fields have been discovered by
now. There is a feeling in people both at home and abroad
that Bangladesh is simply floating over gas.
Oil has also been struck in a limited scale in
Haripur under Sylhet district some years back. Large
deposits of limestone, hard rock, coal, peat, glass sand,
ceramic clay have been found. The presence of zinc,
silver and gold have also been reported from northers
Bangladesh recently. Accordiong to recorded history,
Bangladesh was a very rich country before it had fallen
under British subjugation in the middle of the 18th century.
The fame of the old Bengal's wealth and affluence
transcended national boundary. The country can very well
stand on its own feet if its natural resources are properly
exploited.
