Matt Riggs/(Guitar, vocals)
Matt was born in San
Diego and has been bouncing around from band to band with various styles.
For nearly twenty years, he has been mixing rock, blues, reggae, punk,
funk and jazz while always keeping one foot on the distortion pedal.
Former bands include Kali Club, Diq Diamond and the Family Jewels, Criminal
Justice, Go Van Gogh, Saskatchewan, and Dry Socket. 3 Bags Full, the
project at hand, is a summary of influences from these bands and more.
Alexxx Pater/(Bassist)
Alexxx began playing bass at fifteen years old. He played trumpet with
the John Adams high school marching band in New York, and explored with
numerous other instruments such as saxophone, piano, trombone and drums.
In Florida Alexxx played bass and sang with alternative rock bands such
as Social Emotion, Joshua and Acid Mary. After moving to San Diego with
the members of Acid Mary in 1995, Alexxx proceeded to play with several
musicians and bands learning Reggae, Jazz, Latin Jazz, and POP. A few
years later, he met Matt, and soon after became part of the original
foundation for 3 Bags Full. Alexxx has picked up a style in the Ògreen
zoneÓ of music, which proves to be a key factor in the bands structure
and flow.
Jason Williams/(Guitars,vocals)
Jason,a transplant from Connecticut, started playing on the San Diego
scene in 1992. Having been trained in classical music since age 10,
he has been influenced by classical, swing, jazz,as well as rock'n'roll.
With such a variety of influences and experience playing multiple instruments
(including saxophone and bass) has made Jason a well-rounded musician.
Having played with Matt in past projects such as Go Van Gogh, Dry Socket,
and Saskatchewan, it is only natural that Jason fits so well with 3
Bags Full.
Randal Sargent/(Drums,
vocals)
Randal began playing
the drums in 1989. He played in several San Diego based bands including
Divided We Fall and Chump. Eventually, RandalÕs focus fell upon examining
the drums more independently. For the next two years he involved himself
in multiple projects playing a variety of venues and spending time in
the studio. He obtained a bachelorÕs degree in graphic design, and is
currently working for Imagewerks, Inc. (an ad agency in San Diego.)
where he recently helped develop a brand identity for La Face Records
artist ÒP!NKÓ . 3 Bags Full has enabled Randal to reach further in to
his exploration of music, while he helps to develop a sturdy base for
the bands tendency to tangent.
In 1996, while Matt and
Alexxx played out there emotions in a project called Spork, Matt was
simultaneously working on Saskatchewan with Jason. Matt and Jason shared
vocals and alternated turns playing guitar and bass until Jason had
to move to New York. When Randal moved next door to Matt, he was introduced
to Spork. Coming in as a potential vocalist, he began playing acoustically
with Matt and attending regular practice with the band. Soon, the opportunity
arose to play drums, and 3 Bags Full was under way. Jason returned from
a short stay in New York with an agenda. He quickly joined up with the
band and the final dimensions of 3 Bags Full began to materialize. 3
Bags Full is a combined effort. With Matt and Jason utilizing (and jousting
with) their musical knowledge, Alexxx and Randal set the foundation
and tie the music together in a common language. The band is not merely
a group of musicians, but a group of dedicated friends. The chemistry
of this group can be directly correlated with the chemistry of the music
itself.
