Octobriana's Namesake

Octobriana is a comic strip character from Russia. During the 1960s and 70s, she was the focus of a group known as the "Progressive Pornography Party".

This was a kind of creative underground that existed under the repressive regime of the old Soviet Union. They had wild parties where all sorts of folks might turn up, various sorts of drugs were used, and any sort of sexual freedom might be seen. They were pursuing Slack in their own way.

In this environment, Octobriana was born, as a fictional character best able to represent the most optimistic values of the group. The Russian revolution took place in October of 1917, and Octobriana means "the spirit of October". She has been drawn by a number of artists including myself.
