The Long Lonely Road Awake at the break of dawn Starting out on his way Driving hundreds of miles On this long and lonely day He sits behind the wheel Driving safely down the road In his shiny truck made of steel Just trying to deliver the load The life of a truck driver Isn't always that grand It keeps him away from home And takes him across the land Sure he sees the country But it's usually all alone He never sees his wife and kids But its a job that must be done When the lonely trucker gets home His work is not complete As usually there's repairs to do To keep the truck running great He does the best that he can do In weather of all kinds Never taking safety risks With his family on his mind He loves them very dearly And phones them all the time Just to see that all is well And let them know he's fine He has seen a lot of highways In his journey's across the land Covering many hundred miles It's a job of high demand So when you see a trucker Just give a little smile To say hello and let him know He's doing his job with style Most trucker's are a friendly breed Keeping mostly to themselves But if they see that someone's in need They are there like little elves I dedicate this poem today To truck drivers everywhere Just to say thanks for a job well done And let them know I care written by Deborah |
