My Shining Star

In your eyes a ray of sunshine glows
Our friendship is one that constantly grows
You are my very own bright shining star
Even though the miles between us are far
We started to talk one day simply as friends
A friendship like this one I know never ends
We go through the good times as well as the bad
Always leaning on each other when we are sad
My shining star you shine so bright
I feel your presence both day and night
The days that you simply cannot be here
It's within my heart that you're always near
I know that you're always by my side
I feel your arms forever opened wide
You turn my bad days into good
Out of all my friends, you've understood
My heart isn't singing happy songs today
In fact it's been a very sad day
I reach inside me to gain some strength
But today I just can't go the extra length
Your caring ways always help ease my fear
But today my heart is still shedding a tear
Part of my world has crumbled again
One year later I still feel the pain
Losing a loved one, does the hurt ever heal?
I still can't believe at times that it's real
I pray to God that he will keep you safe
Losing you would be more than my heart could take
