Lahore (January 7, 2000) Press Release: The world is rapidly moving towards a situation where a globalized economy will obliterate the boundaries of nation-states, leading to the cultural, political, and economic domination of a particular class and ideology. Even though Islam itself is the greatest champion of "globalization," the events actually happening in the world today are leading us in a direction that is diametrically opposed to the Islamic vision of a single world. This was stated by Dr. Israr Ahmad, Ameer of Tanzeem-e-Islami, while addressing a Friday Congregation at Darussalam Mosque in Bagh-e-Jinnah (Lahore, Pakistan).
Dr. Israr Ahmad said that even though the visible and apparent agenda of economic globalization has come under stringent criticism from many directions, few are aware of the hidden motives behind the whole movement. Discussing the venture of globalization, Dr. Israr Ahmad said that it has very rightly been described as a double-edged sword. Globalization will certainly lead to an unprecedented acceleration in economic activity, but those who are already rich and powerful will be the ones to accrue the maximum benefits while the poor will become poorer. The disparity between haves and have-nots will not only become globalized, the already wide gulf between them will expand even more seriously. Dr. Israr Ahmad quoted a critic of globalization who has asked the question that if we are removing the restrictions on the movement of capital across nation-state boundaries, why not remove the current restrictions on the movement of labor as well, so that the poor from India or Bangladesh can find better markets for their work? Since the globalization of economy is obviously meant to further the interests of the capitalists and not that of the working class, this is not likely to happen. Dr. Israr Ahmad said that behind this apparent agenda there is another hidden program that is even more dangerous. The venture of economic globalization is also meant to establish the worldwide domination of a single culture and a single political system. The global culture that is rapidly supplanting the diverse cultural heritage of the world reduces human beings to the level of animals and turns citizens into consumers of goods produced by transnational corporations.
Dr. Israr Ahmad said that the process of globalization is the outcome of the progress of science and technology that has obliterated the very concept of "distance." The unprecedented advances in thecommunication and information technologies in the twentieth century have led us to a point where a single global system seems unavoidable. He said that globalization is the natural consequence of the socio-historical forces that have been shaping the march of history. Even though the direction of globalization can be changed, the trend itself is inevitable. Dr. Israr Ahmad emphasized that Islam is the biggest champion of this trend, and the advent of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was the historic event that actually heralded the era of globalization. All the messengers and prophets of Almighty Allah (SWT) were sent to their respective nations, as evident from the Qur'an, but the advent of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is directed to all the nations and peoples of the world till the Last Day. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was sent as a messenger to the whole of humanity at a critical juncture in human history; he was sent at a time when distances were beginning to disappear and when, for the first time in history, it was becoming possible for the message of a single prophet to have worldwide reach. Dr. Israr Ahmad said that a single global system could have been established in the seventh century, as there was no power on earth that could have stopped the "export" of Islamic revolution from the Arabian Peninsula. The Persian Empire was defeated and the Romans were considerably weakened, and if it were not for the internal sabotage of the Islamic movement by means of a shrewdly orchestrated religio-political conspiracy, Islam would have become the dominant force at a worldwide level fourteen hundred years ago.
Dr. Israr Ahmad said that a single global community of human beings cannot be established without a solid theoretical foundation. Islam provides such a foundation by means of its stress on the unity of God and the unity of the humankind on account of its origin form a single primordial human pair of Adam and Even. If we trace our ancestry back far enough, we will all turn out to be brothers and sisters. Globalization as such, therefore, is something that Islam favors and advocates. However, the kind of globalization that is taking place in today's world has nothing to do with the Islamic ideal of human fraternity and equality. Dr. Israr Ahmad traced the history of the struggle between the forces of good and evil, and said that it is the Zionist and secularized Jews who constitute the financial elite of today's world. Their agenda consists of dividing the world into economic zones and exploiting local labor and capital by means of their own management and technical skills. They are doing this by turning the majority of humankind into mere animals, dedicated only to the fulfillment of their physical and sensual desires, and by creating a consumer society in which buying for the sake of buying becomes a way of life. The religious Jews, on the other hand, are mainly interested in the establishment of Greater Israel and the construction of the Third Temple. Dr. Israr Ahmad said that we are living in the age of Dajjal, and the globalization of economy represents the triumph of the Dajjalian way of life.
Dr. Israr Ahmad said that the world is moving towards the greatest war of human history, as mentioned in the predictions of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), which will be fought primarily in the Middle East. He said that the Muslims in general and the Arabs in particular are going to suffer a great deal of tribulations before the era of the ascendancy of Islam will dawn. He said that according to the predictions in the hadith literature, armies from Afghanistan and Pakistan will strengthen the Islamic government of "Mahdi" in the Arabian Peninsula, before the re-appearance of Prophet Jesus who will kill Dajjal, the self-proclaimed false messiah, and his followers.
The Ameer of Tanzeem-e-Islami said that Pakistan, a country that was created in the name of Islam, has glued itself to the international financial institutions and is showing no sign of any resistance or revolt against their exploitative control of Pakistan's economy. Dr. Israr Ahmad said that Pakistan must not sign the CTBT, as this will be suicidal for the nation. He said that it is time for Pakistani Muslims to wake up and repent. They must establish Islam in their personal and family lives, purge their economic and social practices from all that is prohibited in the Shari'ah, and get ready to collectively strive for the establishment of Islam's ascendancy.
