AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT

Part 1. - Activity 1.

Australia is a democracy. This means the Australian people vote for the people they want to have governing them. There are three levels of government. These are Local, State and Federal. Each level of government is responsible for different issues and policies.

Using the internet as your resource, the following questions need to be answered on the Federal Government of Australia.

Federal Government

  1. Who is the leader of the opposition? Which political party does he belong to?
  2. What is the name of the parliamentary system that Australia uses? Name one other country that also uses this system?
  3. How many houses of parliament are there? Name them.
  4. Name five things the Federal Government looks after.
  5. How does the Federal Government get its money?
  6. Draw a diagram of the Federal Government's parliamentary system. Where is the Federal Government based?
  7. Name the dependent territories of the Australian Federal Government
  8. In Chapter 1 Part 1 - General, find out how the Governor General is paid and write down some of his roles.
  9. How many senators are there and from where are they elected?
  10. How many members are there of the House of Representatives? Whom do they represent?
  11. Name all the members of Cabinet, their Ministry and their job descriptions.
