The Club of Historical Fencing "Bastard Sword" began its activities in 1998 in the town of Kamenets-Podolsky (Ukraine). The idea of creating such a club arose not on an empty place. Those who have visited our town will probably understand what we mean. For those who have not yet seen our town we offer some photos of its architectural monuments.
As you see, one cannot help admiring the beauty of our Old Fortress or Town Hall. So it's no wonder that some our residents did not want to remain just plain observers. As a result an organization called "Military and historical society of amateurs of fortification history" was founded in 1996. The purpose of the society is "extending our knowledge in the field of fortification history and military architecture, as well as general military history; popularization of military and historical themes, contributing to the revival of military history." In a short time there appeared a group of sympathizers who wanted not only to watch but try to create something themselves.
In 1998 it become technically possible to create our club. By that time we had heard (and read) about the Smolensk Club of Historical Fencing. We learned about fencing technique from books dealing with stage (scenic) fencing. As regards costumes we have found still more information on this subject. Considering all the aforesaid we would be glad to establish contacts with persons or societies sharing our interest with the purpose of exchanging information. The participants of our club are not only interested in fencing, but also in many other fields of military history, such as fortification, history of artillery and arms, cold arms, army uniforms of various historical periods, history of arms technique and many others things, including, of course fencing itself.
The club has participated both in town's celebrations and in several All-Ukrainian actions, which held in our town, such as "Kozatski zabavy" ("Cossacks' Amusements"). It happened so that foreign organizations were the first to establish contacts with such clubs. Several delegations that arrived in our town in the line of fortifications have helped us find our "colleagues".
