STONE CROW STUDIO

Stone Crow Studio is owned and operated by Sudi, a very talented artist. “Sudi” is the first name of an artist who remains a very private person. Sudi was born in Frankfurt in Main, Germany and came to the United States at a young age.  She showed a talent for drawing at an early age drawing what most little girls do; Horses!  Her father was a career military officer so much of her youth was spent moving around the Midwestern United States with her teenage years spent in Peru.
Sudi Attended William Woods college where she gained most of her fine-tuning of skills. In later years she also attended Arizona State University majoring in sculpture and Grand Canyon College majoring in printmaking. During the 70’s she displayed her art through travel shows like American Fairs. This experience taught her how to accept criticism.  She has spent the last twenty-odd years integrating all the skills she learned and honing her In 1975 she opened her own studios, Septagon Graphics, and although she has moved from Missouri to Arizona to Washington State, the studio has remained open. Sometimes it was in the living room and often in a garage. She says it keeps her humble.

Subjects:
My subjects are found in the environments in which I have lived. I enjoy tromping along streams, through wetlands in search of birds and other forms of wildlife as well as enjoying wandering through ghost towns camera in hand imagining what it was like to live there. I enjoy translating these things into characters for my work and pride myself on my accuracy of environment and colouring.
My grandmother was one quarter Cherokee and collected both the stories and artifacts of her ancestors. I grew up visiting a house full of antiques interspersed with baskets of all sizes and uses, rugs from the Southwest, beaded purses, and many stories.  It caused me to feel a kinship that I was able to pursue while living in Arizona and, now, in the Pacific Northwest which I use in my works..
