PCE 2000 - Perlis Caving Expedition

PERLIS HISTORY

Perlis is the northernmost state of Malaysia.  It is mainly agricultural and populated predominantly by Malays who cultivate the wide fertile coastal plain to grow rice.  The main town and centre of administration for the state is Kangar.  Kaki Bukit is a town populated mainly by Chinese in the tin-mining area of north Perlis.  Perlis is well cultivated along the coastal plain but in the east and north there is much room for further development.  The chain of rugged limestone mountains along the northwest side of the state prevents development in this direction.
