Indonesia is entering a very critical moment in its history. What has or has not been done by this nation will determined its faith and future. You may all agree that no country in recent history let alone seeing how Indonesia has ever suffered a dramatic reversion of fortune as Indonesia has experienced over the past 2 years. The challenges and problems facing Indonesia is multifaceted and interrelated. Despite promising size of improvement , the national crisis has not been completely resolved, with severe unemployment becoming an epidemic, adding to the cronic shortage of food being distributed to all part of indonesia, leaving malnourished and poverty, because they can not afford to pay. Swept along in this pile is the younger and weaker group of the population, our children. Our children who are still dependant on us to provide them with the basic means to survive and exhale in this world, and not to endure the suffering that would weep them and deprived them of their childhood. With much of the Indonesian population below the poverty line, we at Rotary District 3400 have realized the urgency surrounding our people. but Indonesia is in a deep crisis, and words alone can not describe the numbing shock that has been inflected on this country of 200 million people. That is why, in August 1998, District 3400 launched its program, called HELP. Despite the shortcomings of our nation today, we must still continue to fight for the welfare of our fellow citizens and our children. Because although they may be a bunch of kids today, but frightening - as it may see - they are the decision makers of tomorrow, and whether we realized it or not, our future will depend on their judgements and their decisions.
