"My father is only a worker in a glass shop, and my mother works baby-sitting children. I want to continue school " 1. Abdul Rachman, 11 years, Grade 6 at Kedungmundu Elementary PS #02, Semarang: "Praise to God, I am grateful of Rotarys help. I am soooooo happy to be able to continue school. I want to be able to help my familys needs. My father is only a worker in a glass shop, and my mother works baby-sitting children. To survive, mother likes to select and pick out left-overs of vegetable vendors after the Johar market has finished all deliveries. Then she brings it home to sell cheaply in the village." Abdul Rachman has 3 siblings. He has such great enthusiasm in continuing his studies: "I would like to come out in the top 10 of my class," he says with all his faith. 2. Ika Septiani, 12 years, Grade 6 Kedungmundu Elementary PS #05, Semarang: "I am happy and excited that Rotary is helping me. I would like to continue school. But my mother, Ngatinah, is only a worker doing laundry for 2 families around here. My father is only a trash collector." Sunarto, Ikas father, only receives Rp.100,000.-/mo. Salary. Ngatinah only receives Rp.50,000.-. But Ika is a very studious and diligent child. The scholarship for her was perfect. Her school grades are very good. Her report card average is an 8 (out of 10). She has 7-year-old sibling, still sitting in Grade 1. 3. Septiani, 11 years, the third child of 4, is in Grade 5 of Kedungmundu Elementary PS #01, Semarang: "I would like to continue my education as far as possible. I believe I can help my family lessen our burden. Thank you Rotary." Septis father works as a glass-cutter worker in the city. Her mother leaves at 3 am every morning to buy fresh fish to sell in her village. Her profit is Rp.5,000.-/day, barely enough to help the family survive. |
