Tonatiuh is a sun god, but of less importance than Huitzilopochtli. He rules over paradise called Tollan, for souls of warriors slain in battle and women who died giving birth. He was portrayed as having such blonde hair that one of Cortes' lieutenants, Alvarado, was mistook for Tonatiuh.
