Background/History:
Aeli is a cross between a Kitsune (fox spirit, of the Asian persuasion, not to be confused with regular werefoxes) and Garou. In a mix of such things, the cub must be born with the spirit of one or the other; there are no Garou/Kitsune hybrid spirits. The cub of this pairing, for example, will either be a Kitsune who's Kinfolk to Garou, a Garou who's Kinfolk to the Kitsune, or Kin to both groups. In any event, the child born will be the breed of the mother (human, or homid to a homid mother, for instance). In Aeli's case, she carries the spirit and breed of her mother, a Kitsune, and Kin to her father's spirit, the Garou. Like her mother, she is a homid. She doesn't realize these technicalities, however, knowing only she is what she is and having never been exposed to those who would tell her such things, so the confusion is eminent when attempting to sort out exactly what she is.
Aeli's parents were Kitsune and Garou, being assassinated soon after she was able to walk and talk by and angry rival from her mother's clan, (the Kitsune are sometimes apathetic, evil disdainful of the Garou, having no real understanding of their wars or culture). Aeli was told she was a mistake and sent forward thus to fend for herself, those assuming she would not survive.
Likewise, Aeli was “stuck” in a homid form with animalistic (Her vulp/lupine ears and tail, fangs, etc.) features for quite some time (She actually just unaware/unable to control her shifts). This brought on her years of dejection, being viewed as some sort of mongrel, even Metis. She was unaware when these had changes occurred, though they likely manifested themselves out of self-preservation. She may have (and most likely has) shifted before, however she has chunks missing from her memories via beatings, etc. She would have regarded such things as delirium anyway, never expecting she could attain the beautiful forms she had seen the Garou as such. Having no formal raising, she was not awoken to the ability of control of her features, until she met Morguline. After their confrontation she realized that she could control her forms, though she wasn't quite sure how to go about doing thus. With time and Morguline's fury looming over her head, she settled into herself and searched that which was inside her. The years of her torment and shun from the Garou and others weighed on her mind, and the Kin in her stirred to meet this challenge. In a fit of emotion, her Kitsune magic re-exerted itself, and she found the ability to attain her fully homid form. Awakening to what she was, with several new, ancient memories also re-exerting in her, she stays still a bit unsure of the meanings of this new-found person, though a curiosity and wonder surround her, a longing to connect with the shifter inside herself, to awaken the dormant Spirit Fox.

About the Kitsune:
1) Kitsune aid each other, helping their clan and showing a united front.
2) Kitsune respond to what they see around them. When a kitsune sees what they consider an act against their code of ethics, they will aggravate the situation. They will respond favorably to what they consider a 'moral' act. If a kitsune is treated well, they will respond in kind, and may even go out of their way to aid their friend, while if they are treated poorly, they can become extremely spiteful.
3) Kitsune try to follow their promises and personal word of honor. If a kitsune breaks their word, or somehow dishonors themselves, they become very self-distructive. A kitsune's emotions are a weapon against a kitsune. Sorrow or guilt can paralyze them, and in the most extreme, it can kill them. A kitsune can be blinded from the darker side of a person by being treated well, and will be loathe to harm or work against those they have declared friends.
4) Kitsune are will not accept unwilling charity. Those who wish to help kitsune must do so of their own free will. Kitsune loathe asking for help, and will not accept help that is not freely given.
5) Kitsune are emotional and very vengeful. Kitsune can lose their temper at the slightest provocation. Once someone has earned a kitsune's enmity, the kitsune will begin enacting revenge that can become quite extreme. On the other hand, those who have earned a kitsune's trust and loyalty will see a friendship that can last through many trials.
6) Freedom is very important to the kitsune. They do not accept being forced into something they do not wish, and do not like being bound or trapped. Doing so weakens the kitsune, and is frowned upon by others.
If a kitsune is to be in a position of servitude, this requires that the kitsune has either been bound spiritually, or owes someone a dept or favor.
Kitsune are most often recognized by the fact they have more than one tail. This does not have to be the case, however, as kitsune do not necessarily show their tails. Be that as it may, a kitsune gains power and stronger magics as it ages. Tails are a sign of rank. Aeli only has one, as she is still quite young (for a kitsune). The kitsune gains a tail once every hundred years, until they become a nine-tail, the highest and most powerful rank. Nine-tails are extremely rare.
They are always exceptionally beautiful (or handsome), and invariably skilled in matters of etiquette. They can possess remarkable abilities of illusion, to the point that some poor fool traveler could one night be entertained by a beautiful woman in a comfortable mansion ... and then wake the next morning to find himself cramped underneath the floorboards of a house. If ever frightened, they revert to their true form and flee - and they can be scared by things that would normally frighten a fox but shouldn't normally bother a human (such as a barking dog) while not bat an eye at horrors of the supernatural (since they themselves fall in that category).
Most important to a Kitsune's nature is the playful nature of the fox. How when the belly is full, and the weather is lovely, and all is right with the world, it is ok to bounce around for no good reason. It is perfectly okay to attack that vicious stalk of grass swaying in the breeze. Kitsune are just as much fox as they are spirit, holding to the witty and sly reputation of the nature. Shifted Forms
