Those without a tribe are called the Ronin, for they have no tutor or master. These people are usually renunciates, and they do not seek to help or hinder the Garou. Many of them are lost wolves, having lost some vital element that makes them Garou. Many are also of the Wyrm. The Ronin are mysterious, shadowy and distrusted, but some of them are among the greatest of Gaia's heroes.

Ronin
The Ronin are Garou who can`t stand the strict laws of the Garou society and have chosen to leave their packs and run on their own. There are some among the outcasts that have been forced to leave their packs because of some crime that they have commited against the Garou society, but these Garou are few and the tribes try not to send away their cubs because of the decreasing amount of the Garou. The Garou that are cast out loose their name or they may use the extensin -lurf in their name to show that the no longer have the support or status within their tribe, most of the outcasts seem to bee of human origin and this may be explained bythe human nature to rebel.
Many Garou that have left their tribe try to seek other tribes for their acceptance, but their hopes are often crushed. Those who leave their tribe willingly have often the opportunity to return to their tribe if they wish so. The worst problem the Garou faces when he has been cast out, besides loosing his mind, is that he is no longer granted access to the so-called Caerns (places of great power), when the Garou loose their right to use caerns they slowly begin loosing contact with the spirit world they call the Umbra. After a little time they often find it even impossible to enter the spirit world. The Garou have also one big problem, they can`t contact the spirits from their caerns. This forces the Garou to try and find new spirits to deal with and learn new gifts, which reassemble our Disciplines, but all to often these spirits that aid Garou are banes, or evil spirits, as we would call them. Another problem they have is, that fetishes that they wish to create are often possessed by these banes portending to be spirit allies.
The Outcast Garou are often used as mercenaries by the Garou and other factions, the Outcasts are often so lonely that they will nearly do anything to get a little attention. There are those Garou that are known as the Skin Dancers, these "Garou" are originally normal humans that have found a special rite which allows them to become werewolves. One would believe that the Garou would be happy with the extra amount of Garou that this rite would create, but this is not the case. The ritual, according to a specimen that I and a couple of my fellow researchers captured revealed that the rite itself needs the skins of five Garou, and because the rite is of the "wyrm" itself the newly created "Garou" are "wyrm" tainted. But the benefits of this rite and this artificial tribe are many, they have a great variety of Gifts and often the Garou go through a psychological change that enables the "Garou" to understand the Tribes better, and often take on the fight against the "wyrm" minions. The Garou that have been cast out can often bee used as bodyguards for a small fee, BUT, never trust them completely for there is always the chance that they will return to their tribes and then come after you. One last warning, look out for the tribe known as the Black Spiral Dancer. These foul creatures are minions of hell itself, they will often try to lure the Outcasts to their tribe and are highly dangerous. Remember brothers and sisters, the Clan before everything, so never reveal secrets to the shapeshifters.
The Ronin
Although frowned on by Garou Society, there are always Garou that have turned away, or been turned away, from the Garou Nation. These lone wolves are known as ronin and are considered outcast. Free of the constraints of pack, sept or tribe, ronin are also without purpose, direction and support. Loneliness is usually the downfall of most ronin. In the desperate search for companionship and the devastating curse of Harano, ronin often fall victim to the lure of Banes and other Wyrm-minions, sometimes willingly, often by accident. Those that do survive the lure of the Wyrm often go mad from the loneliness and become as dangerous to themselves as they are to others. The lifespan of a ronin is, one way or the other, very sad, very brutal, or very short.
