"How could he be in the room without getting covered with flour?" she thought. "I'm covered with it myself!" It suddenly occurred to her that the fairy may be cheating. "Understump?" she called out. "Are you even in here?"
She waited a little longer, looking for signs, but she only got madder. She was certain that Understump had never gone into the room with her. That she'd made a huge mess of her bedroom and he had lied to her. At last, she stormed out of the room. "Understump! Where are you?" she shouted. "You might as well confess. I know there's no way you could have stayed hidden in there without breaking the rules."
"Wanna bet?" The voice came from right above her and she watched, stunned, as her night cap jumped off of her head and shot across the floor, laughing Understump's laugh as it went. She tried to catch the hat before Understump could get away, but she was far too late.
She returned to the flour-covered disaster that was her bedroom. Without Understump's help, it would take days to clean up the mess. She sighed heavily and then went after the broom.
