Prior to the date the 28th of September 1999, I was leading a relatively normal life. If you can call sleeping or trying to sleep with pain normal. If you can call pacing up and down till you sleep through exhaustion normal. If you call being pumped up at times with so many pain killers normal,  than I was leading a normal life. I had been seeing of Doctors for a pre-e existing back complaint pain which seemed  worse than usual. Can you imagine the sight of a household normally occupied by 6 adults and my granddaughter traipsing along cushions, pillows on the floor and staring at me helplessly for some 8 months ? More test and more test, till I finally  bowed to family pressure and visited the emergency section of our Hospital. It appears that sharp pain to the back, shortness of breath and excruciating agony  is  not a priority to our poor overburdened health system. After some hours we leave after this place as it is suggested we visit  a Medical Centre for quicker service . Here  I am seen and prescribed more pain killers. Wow!  more pain killers to my collection, no thank you . I then resort  to seeing a manipulative therapist till one day even  He says to my wife " you better take him to a hospital straight away ". So I'm bundled to  another Hospital and some three hours later I am seen by a Doctor. At this point I am crying, yes that's right crying. I tell him I am no longer able to handle this pain both physically and emotionally ." Please Doctor keep me in,  there is something wrong with me "  . This was not the same back pain I had been enduring since 1979 this felt  different. Well he might as well have said " Do you want fries with that ?" Because he advises me to cheer up go home, and take up swimming .  Less than two weeks later , after seeing a Doctor out of my area and upon examination I am sent to Royal North Shore Hospital. I had been bleeding internally for some time with an ulcer. And you know what causes this particular type of ulcer an accident, trauma or stress. Now why do you suppose I would fall into this category ?

Anyway picking up the thread of this story, two weeks after I had been released from Hospital I receive this letter from my ex-solicitor. My last conversation with him was over 4 1/2 years ago when I had to chase him up to hear the outcome of my appeal in the Supreme Court. As you can imagine this news was quite important to us. So when we did not hear from him that day we waited a few more days till I decided I had better call him. Eventually he rang back and told me I had lost my appeal. I was stunned by the news  putting it mildly and I asked what can we do about this now. I was told " nothing forget about all this just get on with your lives ". That was the last  I heard from him till the 28th September 1999 when I received a letter from his office. It appears that he had overlooked  some medical expenses of mine to the tune of        $ 1,200  and he was seeking re-imbursement of this amount. I say overlook because one would  think it is not good business practice and unprofessional to let an account go for so long. But I could be wrong in this respect because some months later I also get one from the G.I.O after also 4 1/2.  I have reserved their story in another section of these misadventures. As I have not once through all these years had any correspondence from this sleeping giants till January 2000 this too came as a total surprise. Suddenly it appears that they have opened a special Department exclusively to deal with  me and have sent me enough stationery to have substantially trimmed a vast area of our rainforest.  Oh yes ! another thing I am told they are quite entitled to do this.
