Things that need to be changed
What should be changed in this world? Here's a hint: If it hasn't changed in, say, 10 years, or you're watching historic footage and it still looks basically the same, it's time for a new design. Here is my little list of objects that need to be redesigned. I've broken them down by type. One day I'll have designs for everything on this list.
- Around the house
- The number one item that needs redesign is - Toilet Paper. Ever seen Demolition Man? You know what I'm referring to.
- Electrical outlets haven't changed in decades. Why not make them smaller and camoflaged?
- Mail boxes: Most are dull to look at.
- Transportation
- Of course, with the fossil fuel reserves shrinking, transportation has to turn to alternative forms of energy meet the needs of a growing population, blah, blah, blah. But really, let's get some cool looking cars! Lets change the way we think about them. Four engines! Three wheels! Jet propelled! Hovercars! Let's get craaaaaaaaaaaaazy!!
- Our Rail Transit system is in need of upgrade. A good form of transportation that has not see the development as the other methods, like automobiles and airplanes. Safety and speed are main concerns when designing for this category..
- Urban
- Traffic lights need a make-over. But are they clear and simple enough already? Does that mean changing the meanings as well? I can't imagine that in the 21st century we'll be looking at those same boring dots.
- Telephone cables and power lines mess up the skyline and are ugly to look at. A change in design and technology is needed.
- Traffic signs should be standardized in look, and the supports that hold them up.
- Garbage cans. I think they can be designed in a "theme" if you will to fit with their surroundings, even though it's main purpose is to hold our refuse.
Can't top that
Although most things could use a face-lift, but some things you just can't improve on.
- Mother Nature: You can't mess with the hand of God, mortals.
- The paperclip: I read somewhere that it is the simplest, most utilitarian form ever invented. Its a classic case of form follows function.
- Chopsticks: Two long, narrow sticks. Ingenious. I once heard that it's the most evolved utensil in the world, because the earliest cavemen used forks, knives and spoons to stab and scoop at their food. If you don't agree, it's because you probably can't use them.
- Weapons: How many more ways must we kill a animal or human?
Any more ideas that you didn't see here? Let me know.
