17th April 82 : 87003 "Patriot" at Birmingham International.
Introduced in 1973, the Class 87's began life in corporate blue livery. Nine years old and the only changes for 87003 were the addition
of the "Patriot" nameplates and orange cantrail stripe.
18th October 97 : 87006 in Virgin Train colours at Liverpool Lime Street.
One of the more inspiring liveries of the privatised operators is that of Virgin Trains. 87006 shows off it's new coat of paint. The
coaches are also in Virgin colours.
28th April 84 : 87020 "North Briton" at London Euston.
87020 on a sunny afternoon in London.
23rd June 90 : 87020 "North Briton" passing through Northampton.
87020, towing a failed DVT, passes under Westbridge as it leaves Northampton station on a diverted West Coast service bound for London.
Although in InterCity colours, this loco did not carry the InterCity branding.
26th November 82 : 87029 "Earl Marischal" leaves Coventry for Birmingham.
87029 is seen leaving Coventry on a northbound InterCity service.
20th October 90 : 87030 "Black Douglas" and 47835 at Birmingham.
87035 and 47835 share my camera viewfinder at Birmingham New Street.
14th July 81 : 87101 "Stephenson" at Northampton.
A rare passenger outing for the sole 87/1 is captured on film. This view also shows the original "tin-plate" type nameplate that was
used on 87101. The nameplates were originally on 87001 until 1977 when 001 was named "Royal Scot".
25th August 90 : 87101 "Stephenson" at Stafford.
Still with the original "tin-plate" type nameplates, 87101 is seen at Stafford on another passenger working.
6th September 97 : 87101 "Stephenson" at Edinburgh Waverley.
Now with cast nameplates, and operated by EWS, "Stephenson" is now a regular performer on railtour duties. This was Hertfordshire
Railtours' "The Deltic Scotsman" which had used Deltic D9000 from London to Edinburgh. The 87 took us back to London.
