This unit is an example of the type used on relatively short journeys within Holland. This type has a maximum speed of 140km/h.
As is the case in the UK, many EMU's are stabled between the morning and evening rush-hours. 463 is a Plan V5 unit built in 1970.
1994 built SM90 "Railhoppers" 2107 and 2108 are seen at Emmen station, limit of NS services on this line. This class is used primarily around Zwolle.
This type of EMU is used mainly on "stoptreins" around the Amsterdam and Rotterdam areas.
These single car units can be used to tow freight (postal) vans. On several occasions during my 1998 visit I did see pairs of these units hauling short freight trains too!
"Koplopers" (or "head runners" as it translates) are used on most of the long distance internal services in Holland. The ride quality and comfort is good.
A high vantage point for the driver is gained when driving a "Koploper" unit, such as the example seen here.
Not too easy to decide which section to include this photo! This Thalys unit had just terminated on a Paris to Amsterdam service. A close look at the power car (43039) revealed it was allocated to Brussels Midi depot, so maybe it should be on my SNCB page?

An example of a modern double-deck EMU design used on inter-city services within Holland. This type was just being introduced when I visited in 1995 however I did travel on several units. They have a top speed of 160km/h (100mph).
