The Benelux push-pull services between Brussels and Amsterdam are operated using SNCB Class 11 locomotives, hauling NS owned coaching stock. All are painted in this attractive yellow and bordeaux red livery, as are the coaches. This class of 12 locomotives were built between 1985 and 1986.
Painted in a special advertising livery is multi-voltage electric No. 1601, seen here stabled at Oostende station. Also in the long line up of stabled locomotives are several members from classes 21 and 27.
In March 1998, the two-hourly Oostende to Köln services still used a multi-voltage SNCB locomotive. The 0734 from Oostende, seen here at Gent with 1604 in charge, was usually around 15 coaches in length giving these 30 year old locomotives something to work with.
Another view of the 0734 Oostende to Köln train at Gent. On this occasion 1606 was in charge. Unusually, the sun was shining on this particular morning (at least it is unusual when I'm out photographing!)
Prior to the introduction of the Thalys (TGV) units many of the Paris to Brussels services were in the hands of the four voltage Class 18 electrics. This class, built in 1973, is based on the French Railways CC40100 locomotive. there are only six class members.
My regular morning train during this week spent on a Euro-Domino railrover, the 0734 Oostende to Köln, on this particular day produced one of the remaining Class 18's, 1806.
2008, an example of one of the SNCB's most powerful electric locomotive classes is seen on a train of double-deck stock during the afternoon rush-hour.
Waiting the afternoon peak at Ottignies station is 2109 with a rake of M4 coaches.
This class is used on internal push-pull services (with M4 single deck and M5 double deck stock) and also on freights. The 60 class members were built between 1984 and 1987.
2149 waits time at Gent with an IC service bound for Oostende.
2237 and 2217 are seen stabled at Charleroi Sud station.
A mixed traffic locomotive class dating from 1955, the first of the class is seen on the stock of a rush-hour passenger train.
With less services operating at weekends than during the week, quite a number of electric locomotives may be found stabled waiting Monday morning. Here we see one such example, 2727.
