Descendants of Jean Jacques Daigrepont (Ducrepont)

Generation No. 1

On July 15, 1815, Sieur Jean Jacques Vernin Daigrepont (Ducrepont) married Eugenie Vitrac. Eugenie born March 9, 1791 the daughter of Dr. Jacques Paul Vitrac and Marie Clemence Lacour.

Jean Jacques Daigrepont and Eugenie Vitrac had one child:

Pierre Daigrepont (Ducrepont) born: 1819 ***

Note I:

DAIGREPONT - Sieur Jean Jacques Vernin Daigrepont, native of Moulin, province of Bourbon, France, first settled in Pointe Couppee about 1810, married there in 1815, but by 1819 he and his bride had moved to Avoyelles, where they settled the family farm near present day Hessmer. Daigrepont had married Eugenie Vitrac, born March 9, 1791, daughter of Dr. Jacques Paul Vitrac, a native of Bordeaux, France, and Marie Clemence LaCour. Jacques and Eugenie had only one child, Pierre Daigrepont, before the early death of Jacques. After the death of Jacques, his widow remarried in 1822 Ebenezer G. Paxton. (summary by Randy DeCuir)

Note II:

Eugenie Vitrac was born in Pointe Coupee Parish March 9, 1791 and baptised at St. Francis of Pointe Coupee on June 9, 1791. She was 24 years old at the time of the wedding which took place on False River. She was the daughter of Dr. Jacques Paul Vitrac, a surgeon and prominent citizen of the Parish. His wife was Marie Clemence Lacour, daughter of Simon Lacour and Perrine Leonard/Frederic and granddaughter of Nicolas de Lacour and Perrine Brette. Nicolas was a native of France and is the ancestor of the Lacour's of Pointe Coupee and Avoyelles. He came to America in 1720 was married and living in Natchez in 1726. Jacques Vitrac was native of Bordeaux, France, and was the son of Louis Vitrac and Marguerite Garnier of France. (summary by Mack Daigrepont)

Note III:
Jean Jacques Daigrepont and Eugenie Vitrac had but one child of record, a son, named Pierre. Pierre Daigrepont was born in Avoyelles in 1819. Shortly thereafter, his father died, leaving his widow, Eugenie, to manage their property near Hessmer, Louisiana. Eugenie Daigrepont, the 31 year old widow of Jean Jacques Daigrepont remarried to Ebenezer G. Paxton in 1822 at Avoyelles. Paxton was a Justice of the Peace in Avoyelles and performed many marriages in the parish from 1821 well into the 1840's. Generation No. 2

On December 27, 1836 Pierre Daigrepont (Ducrepont) married Azelie (Agelie) Ducote. Azelie Ducote born 1820 was the daughter of Jean Pierre Ducote and Elise Laborde. Pierre Daigrepont I and Azelie Ducote had eleven children. Pierre Daigrepont died in 1875 and Azelie Ducote before 1890.

Note I:

Pierre Daigrepont, son of Jean Jacques Daigrepont and Eugenie Vitrac, married Azelie Ducote on December 27, 1836. According to the records, Pierre was seventeen years old and his bride, sixteen. Azelie Ducote was also a decendent of prominent residents of Pointe Coupee Parish. Her parents were Jean Pierre Ducote and Elize Laborde.

Jean Pierre Ducote was born at Pointe Coupee on August 24, 1783. His parents were Pierre Ducote II and Henriette Rabalais of Pointe Coupee. Pierre and Henriette were married at Pointe Coupee in 1773. Pierre Ducote II parents were Pierre Ducote I and Madelena (Magdelena) Cabe. Henriette Rabalais parents were Joseph Rabalais I and Anne Barbe Boftz

Elise Laborde was the daughter of Dr. Pierre Laborde and Modeste Lacour (aunt of Eugenie Vitrac). Pierre Laborde was a native of Fartachey, Diocese of Aix, France. He was a surgeon in service to the King of France and served at both Pointe Coupee and Avoyelles Posts. Pierre Laborde and Modeste Lacour were married on September 30, 1783.

Note II:

Daigrepont 'Generation No. 2' is the same as Laborde I 'Generation No. 5'. My grandfather Elize Daigrepont and my grandmother Sidonia Dubroc have one set of the same great great grandparents, who were Pierre Laborde I and Modeste LaCour. It was not uncommon in those days for cousins to marry. So let us continue by showing the beginnings of the Laborde Family Tree.

Generation No. 1

Jean Laborde I was born about 1683 in Taras, France, and died Oct. 9, 1753 in Tartas, France. He married Marie Fossato about 1705 in France.

Notes for Jean LaBorde I:
He was "Bourgeois & Treasurer of Revenues," in Tartas, Landes, France. He died October 9, 1753 and was buried October 10, 1753 in the Church of St. Jacques in Tartas, France.

Child of Jean Laborde and Marie Fossato is: Jean LaBorde II, born about 1710 in Tartas, France; died before April 17, 1769 in Tartas, France.

Jean LaBorde II was born about 1710 in Tartas, France, and died before April 17, 1769 in Tartas, France. He married Catherine Lamuee March 19, 1736/37 in Lesgoz, France.

Notes for Jean LaBorde II: He was the Royal Procureur (prosecutor) and Notary of the Senechal at Tartas, Landes, Province of Gironne, France.

Child of Jean LaBorde and Catherine Lamuee is: Pierre LaBorde I, born April 9, 1746 in Tartas, France; died before April 20, 1825 in Avoyelles Parish, LA.

Generation No. 3

Pierre LaBorde I was born April 9, 1746 in Tartas, France, and died Before April 20, 1825 in Avoyelles Parish, LA. He married Modeste Lacour, September 30, 1783 in Pointe Coupee Post, LA, daughter of Simon Lacour and Marguerite Leonard.

Notes for Pierre LaBorde I:
Dr. Pierre LaBorde I., M.D., was the "Master Naval Surgeon" at Point Coupee Post (Located at the site of New Roads, LA). He may have lived at Opelousas before coming to Avoyelles. Besides his duties as Coroner, he had farming interests as well as stock raising in the area. He was a native of Tartas, France and was the youngest of six children. He was also the first doctor to come to Avoyelles Parish. He moved his family to Avoyelles Parish before 1789. (Source: Early Families of Avoyelles Parish, LA by Gremillion).

Notes for Modeste Lacour:
Modeste Lacour was 15 years when she married Dr. Pierre LaBorde, who was 47 years old. Their witnesses were: Julien Poydras and Jean Gourgeat.

Azelie (Agelie) Ducote was born in 1820. She married Pierre Daigrepont, born 1819, on December 27, 1836. Pierre Daigrepont was the only child of Jacques and Eugenie Daigrepont. Azelie Ducote was the daughter of Jean Pierre Ducote and Elise Laborde. Pierre died before 1880 and Azelie before 1890. They lived their entire life on a farm near Hessmer. Azelie and Pierre Daigrepont (Ducrepont) had eleven children.

Generation No. 6

Elise Daigrepont, son of Azelie Ducote and Pierre Daigrepont was born 1856. Elise Daigrepont is my great grandfather. On my grandfather (Elize Daigrepont) death record at the church states Elise Daigrepont was his father. My grandfather, Elize Daigrepont was born abt. 1880. There is one marriage recorded during that time to Elisee' Daigrepont and Marceline Chenevert.

Note I:

Marceline Chenevert married to Elisee Daigrepont is the only marriage during 1879/1880 that I could find. There are later marriages to Elizee Daigrepont. But these could be the grand children of Azelie and Pierre getting married. See my source and notes section below to show the other marriages I have found, including marriage dates of Azelie and Pierre Daigrepont's children.

Generation No. 7

Elize Daigrepont, born abt. 1880, died November 5, 1938, was the son of Elise Daigrepont (per his death record at the church). He married Sidonia Dubroc, born October 6, 1878, the daughter of Felicien Dubroc and Marie Laborde. Elize wrote in his early grade school reader: "Lezay Decrapon that my name". Elize and Sidonia Daigrepont had seven children (according to church records). Listed below are eight children with a note on the eighth listing.

Note I:

According to the birth certificate of Michel Daigrepont, he was the 7th child born of Elize Daigrepont and Sidonia Dubroc. In a book, Elize wrote the names and birth dates of seven children. The dates of the seven children match the church records. Elize's record of his children's birth dates. But in the Plaucheville cemetary is buried a child, whose name is Amy Ducrepont. On her tombstone it says Elize Daigrepont and Sidonia Dubroc are her mother and father.

Generation No. 8

Michel (Mitchell) Daigrepont, born May 2, 1915, died June 16, 1955, is the son of Sidonia Dubroc and Elize Daigrepont. Michel married Margaritae Schott, daughter of Frank Schott and Sophie Barth, on February 27, 1949, in New Orleans. Because of his early death, Michel and Margaritae had only one child, Evelyn Daigrepont (me).

Baptized: Palm Sunday, April 2, 1950 by Rev. Charles Murphy, St. Anthony Catholic Church, Baton Rouge, LA. Sponsers were Reven St. Romain and Bessie Dubroc.

Generation No. 9

Evelyn Daigrepont (me), born: February 28, 1950, is the daughter of Michel Daigrepont and Margaritae Schott. Evelyn was born 2/28/1950 and baptized Palm Sunday, in Baton Rouge, LA. Evelyn Daigrepont married Merlin Neil Forland, Minneapolis, MN. Merlin was born November 18, 1944, died March 16, 1993. He was a Viet Nam war veteran and is the adopted son of Merle Forland and son of Dorothy Whipple. Merlin was honorably discharged from the Army on May 31, 1969. Evelyn Daigrepont and Merlin Forland have two children.
