Contemporary Chinese Art
“Spring in our Town,” Wang You-Chun, Ink painting, 180 x 90 cm, Chinese Culture Center.
Flowers have traditionally been representatives of the four seasons. Landscape paintings may make a philosophical statement about the interaction of the primary forces that create the universe. During the Song dynasty, there was a great interest in gaining a deeper understanding of nature through close observation and detailed recording of what was seen. Artists observed and depicted natural objects in a realistic style. This style continues today in the ink paintings from contemporary Taiwanese artists.
