A Poem for Mother's Day, My Mothers' Day.....
Mama? Can You Hear Me?
Pamela Sheer Newsom
In loving memory of my mother, Betty Jane Sheer
"I lost you too soon!"
5/6/22-6/9/90
When I lay myself down at night
As my head hits the pillow and my eyes close
Thoughts usually turn to you
Wondering if I did everything right that day
All the things you taught me
Praying I had I learned what I should
You were my rock, my anchor
The one person I could always count on
Some days, I feel aimlessly lost
Missing something, missing someone
Then I look into the mirror and I find...
It's you, Mama, and you're staring back at me!
More and more, as the years pass
The slightest motions, the words I utter
They remind me so much of you
Cut from the same mold, I'd say!
Yet, in the quiet of the night
Tears well and I remember your touch
Your laughter, the tunes you would whistle
The tapping of your fingertips, for whatever reason
I go back to those simpler times...
Times I could do anything because you believed in me
Yet, certain, if I failed, you'd still love me
Can you hear my whispers in the night?
Mama? Mama? Can you hear me?
You are my guiding light, I honor and cherish your memory
Painfully missing you is forever and please know...
Being a child of yours was truly my gift from God!
I love you!

The Mothers in This World
Pamela Sheer Newsom
Gazing into your wondrous eyes
And holding you close to me
From the deepest depths of my soul
My love is pure for you to see
Your innocence, you're a precious miracle
No hate nor bigotry
Your tiny little hands touching mine
I treasure this memory
I'll raise you the very best I can
I'll teach you to stand strong and tall
Understand one very important thing though
Before you can walk, you must crawl
Take time, my child, to smell the flowers
To play and enjoy your life
Don't rush, for surely if you do...
Your heart could be filled with strife
Nothing is perfect but you do come close
In my eyes you'll always be
I am your mother and I always will
See the very best in you, you see
So when you've grown into your own
Don't forget the times we've shared
The times we laughed and we cried
The times I held you when you were scared
I am of the mothers in this world
From your birth, your struggle to be
Your happiness, your sorrows were always felt
On this Mother's Day, remember me
