Hello there.
Here are a few examples of 3D objects I made on 3D Studio r2.2-r4 and 3D Max v1-v2.5, as well as other 3D programs, such as Mechanical Desktop2, Rhino, Lightscape and Rayman. I think I will stick with these because I know how to use them more or less well, and it would take me too much time to readapt to another system. Although I try to try out whatever new appears.
I always liked 3D graphics, and I knew that I would like it, and I still do, I just don't really have the time because of school, but someday I know I will do something more professional with 3D Graphics. I am studying Industrial Product Design and I try to do as much as possible on the computer, as far as I have the time. It just belongs to that branch and should be considered much more important. I just bought myself a little 3D mill, because I don't really think stopping at the screen will do, there are so many more possibilities to 3D Graphics. A 3D model can directly be used to calculate injection molding parameters, stress and other physical properties, specific to that piece, and then directly mill the piece or mold, all from one model.
First of all everything on this page, i made it myself, all the animated buttons and all! How about that. First i made the animation in 3dsmax as an avi file, then with mainactor i converted it to animated gif and where necessary i cut the files to size in corel photo paint.
Pctower and Omnimobil
Here are my oldest 3D renderings I could find. They were made on 3Dstudio v3 or v4. Its a PC tower and an Omnimobil , based on Jules Vernes' "Epouvante" a machine that can go everywhere, drive, fly, and dive.
Virtual Museum
This must be my biggest old 3D scene, it is a virtual museum, it was a school project, but I made it on my PC, not just the plans. Later I made some radiosity renderings and a little film (1min) at XYZ production, to demonstrate the differences in rendering techniques.
Here is also the film I made of all the rendering techniques, wire, flat, smooth, Max, lightscape, and lightscape imported into Max
the film was mixed on premiere5
Diamond
This is my most known 3D object, it is available at 3D-Cafe. I too find it looks good, but it just isn't perfect. The boolean operation just wouldn't do it.this was rendered with the very old rayman dos raytracer program, but I must say it is very good, now it is the RayMax plugin.
The one-hand bottle opener.
This is an image of my first design project, a bottle opener. It is a 3D Max rendering, partially made out of nurbs, and the bottle has a raytex. I love volume lights !
AUDI windshield scraper
This was a smaller school project, a windshield scraper. I chose Audi., it had to be for a specific make and reflect its design.somehow I lost the original files, and so these are scans of a printout. made on Max
A canteen recycling garbagecan with can compacter. this was my first major design project, a recycling garbagecan, I chose to go for a canteen version, modular, with a can compacter. All done with 3D Max. I also integrated it directly into a picture from our canteen in school.
some lightcape radiosity renderings I really like radiosity, because it is the physically most correct way to put light on a 3D object, but you have to indicate many parameters I really wouldn't know where to get concerning the surface, texture, paint, shininess, haze... the interesting part about radiosity is that you can use it to really do lighting studies, because it exactly shows you the correct lighting values at certain spots.
Here is a closeup of the holes and the explosion view of all the pieces
Here are some images of my garbagecan in situation. The original picture is my canteen. These were made directly in 3DS Max.
This is a project I did for a friend in his final year. He asked me to make this from his plans, since he doesn't have a clue about computers, and didn't have time to draw himself. I made this in 2 days, from zero to this, with a little animation how it works.(10s)
This here is just to show the mechanical system of this bike I had to make in school.
Modular Mouse
This was a smaller project I had to make in my second year, a computer mouse. This here was the last idea I could find to innovate the mouse, interchangeable shells, to fit the consumer's hand. I really like this idea I had and I really want to keep the rights. I really like to images I made here too.
The shapes were made in mechanical desktop2, and then I imported them into 3DsMax for the texturing and effects.
First Aid Box and Pharmacy
This was my latest project, my main 2nd year project. This was modeled in mcad2 also and taken into Max for the texturing and lights. Note the Dirty reyes /shadow effects.
As you can see I mainly use 3D graphics for product visualization, since I need it for my school projects.
