MISTIERS: Bill Livingston TITLE: "Cake and Cable Shutdown" by Dr. Biosicfix CHARACTERS: Mike, Crow, Tom Servo, Gypsy, Magic Voice, Pearl, Bobo, Observer, Nanites SUMMARY: A strange little rant from a neo-luddite/socialist/reformist British guy, warning us of the dangers of evil off-shore repo-men, cabled money, and robots. I think. It's difficult to tell, at best. CATAGORIES: [RANT] HOST SEGMENTS: Opening - Mike & the Bots are testing the Psychic Friends phone network. Instead they get a call from Pearl, boasting of her plan to instill distrust among the SOL-ers. Closing - Mike reveals he's locked the bots in the brig, and demonstrates to a stunned Pearl & Brain-Guy his still- complete control of the SOL. Turns out it's just a whammy perpetrated with the help of the Nanites (it's their coffee break). A flustered Pearl takes it out on Brainy & Bobo. STINGER - "such is human nature." REFLECTIONS: How to explain this little rant? Answer - it can't be done! I read the entire thing through more times than I care to admit, and each time, I know less and less exactly what point the guy is trying to make. Stuff about evil off-shore businesses buying up bankrupt nations and recycling their assets gets jumbled with rants about killer robots and warnings about cabled money. It still hurts. Deeply. Incidentally, I almost convinced *myself* that *I* was psychic. Not long after I posted the "summer movie salute" in "Agent Action", the Brains announced their own summer movie special. And while I was writing the phone segment, I saw episode 814, "Riding With Death", which featured - yep - a scene with an old-style field telephone. What does this prove? Well - nothing, really. Just that if you look hard enough for coincidences, you'll often find them. CHRONOLOGICAL NOTES: Takes place before "Roman Times" RECOMMENDED READING: [none]
