MISTIERS: Bill Livingston TITLE: "Out of the Woods" by Peggy Mei-Ling Li CHARACTERS: Mike, Crow, Servo, Gypsy, Dr. F, Frank SUMMARY: Agents Mulder and Scully pay a visit to Mulder's old chum, Special agent Dale Cooper, who's been locked away as nuts since ABC cancelled "Twin Peaks" and BOB moved in to share head space. Hypnosis, posession, knife fights, and, of course, wackiness ensues. CATAGORIES: XF, XOVER HOST SEGMENTS: Opener - Mike's gone around the bend for Kathy Ireland. This doesn't sit well with the bots (particularly Gypsy). FIRST - Forrester sends up a TheatreSports (aka "Whose Line Is It Anyway?") kit for the gang to try. Unfortunately, the only audience is Frank, whose ideas of Film & Theatre Styles ("The Zapruder Film") don't sit too well. SECOND - Mike explains how "Twin Peaks" (d)evolved into "X-Files", with just a dash of "Picket Fences" on the side. Third - Crow & Servo explore the possibilities inherent in independently movable body parts. They do this mainly by disassembling Crow. FOURTH - Mike forces the bots to dress up as characters from "Twin Peaks". Dr. F wraps Frank in plastic. Gypsy shows up as Sherilyn Fenn, and forces all thoughts of Kathy Ireland from Mike's little mind!!! FIFTH - Mike & the bots all attempt to write their own crossover stories. In Deep 13, Frank shows up dressed as BOB. Dr. F conks him, just as another Frank shows up. Oops. STINGER - "It seems that the host victim must die before transference occurs. Weak spirits are vulnerable to him as well, I believe. So if we run into him...don't worry, be happy." REFLECTIONS: This was my first ever MiSTing, and if I'd had any idea what I was doing, I'd have chosen something slightly smaller! But I was young & foolish then (I feel old & foolish now). Overall, even without the MiSTing, this isn't a bad story, something I took great pains to point out. However, I felt that the confluence of 2 giant weirdness magnets like XF & Peaks cried out almost physically for a visit from the SOL crew. This particular MiSTing also taught me a lesson: I was hard at work on the sequel, "The Vanished", when who should pay a visit to the NG but the author!!! She was looking for any X-Files MiSTings that might exist, and rather than have someone say, "Yeah, there's this Files/TP story that someone ragged on," I e-mailed her and fessed up. Needless to say, she was none too happy to see her work appear in such a fashion, but after some reflection (and getting a positive response from some friends she showed the MiSTing to), she relented adn gave permission to go ahead with the second story. The moral? Alway respect the rights of the author, even if (like Bravo) you edit their work. Oh, and this story is primarily responsible for starting me watching "X-Files" CHRONOLOGICAL NOTES: Season 6 or thereabouts RECOMMENDED READING:
