MISTIERS: Bill Livingston TITLE: The Afrodisians (G.Moore)/Who Mourns for Adonis (Alexander Ring) CHARACTERS: Mike, Crow, Servo, Gypsy, Dr.F, Pearl SUMMARY: In "The Afrodisians" (or "The Aphrodisians" - even the author seems a bit unclear on this point), a handshake between a sexless telepathic alien and Captain Picard kicks Counsellor Troi's libido up to Ludicrous Speed. As the crew frantically searches for a cure, Troi is compassionately left out in the middle of sickbay so everyone can enjoy the most embarassing moments of her life. Meanwhile, in "Who Mourns for Hazzard", a parody with all the deft comedic touch of an arc welder in a monsoon, YAFCE (Yet Another Freak Cosmic Event) causes a set of rare "Dukes of Hazzard" glasses to come to life. Hilarity ensues, though not in the intended spots. CATAGORIES: TNG, TOS HOST SEGMENTS: OPENING - Mike & Crow debate the levels of villainy in "Fargo". Forrester, enraged by this (watching quality films contaminates the experiment) cancels the kaffeklatcsh ambience he had planned - including Pearl's "Stinky Cat" song. MIDDLE - Tom, dressed as Worf, and Crow (aka Will Riker) duel for the hand of the lovely Counsellor Gypsy. Dr.F invents a phaser toilet, but his aim is a little off. END - As Gypsy installs an alarm system, Mike & the Bots debate the relative lessons they just learned. Dr.F's new selection of singin "Trek" actors CD's triggers a Red Alert. STINGER - "Jim! There are madman running around on the ship!" REFLECTIONS: I was bemused by this plucky "Af(ph)rodisians" story, with its misspelled title, the neck-breaking logical leaps, and its - unique- sense of timing.. I think it also highlights the unique problem Marina Sirtis faces getting the same level of respect other female "Trek" regulars get. I bet she wishes every day she had gotten the Tasha Yar role instead. I had just seen "Fargo" when I wrote the host segs. Does it show? Oh yah, you betcha!
