Fantick by Jenny Erdahl MiSTed by "Average Joe" Barlow (jbarlow@earthling.net) THE MESSAGE: A young fanfic writer by the name of Jenny Erdahl, whose enthusiasm for writing is matched only by her ignorance of grammar and punctuation, sends out a desperate request for folks to "come misty my stooories!!!!" [sic] HOST SEGMENTS: Prologue: Having just seen "When Harry Met Sally", Crow and Gypsy discuss whether men and women can remain friends without becoming romantically interested in each other. It gets very nasty. Invention Exchange: Dr. Forrester converts Frank into an electric postman, to make sure he [Dr. F] doesn't miss any important packages. Mike and the Bots invent "nothing", which is the perfect gift to give to the person who has "everything"! Segment One: Mike and the Bots reflect upon the horrid writing in what may well be the shortest message they've ever riffed. Jenny Erdhal (the author of the message) visits the ship, and Mike introducers her to Dr. Forrester. The good doctor is too busy for chit-chat, however, because Electric Postman Frank has short-circuited and is running amuck in Deep 13. Stinger: Jenny toots her own horn. REFLECTIONS: Sad, really. Yes, this is a real piece of e-mail that I received shortly after my Star Wars MiSTing was released to the Internet. You'll be pleased (and not terribly surprised) to know that I graciously turned down Jenny's invitation to riff more of her work. In all honesty, I have to say that Ms. Erdahl was a great sport about the whole thing, and she told me later (in her typical broken sentences) that she had really enjoyed reading my version of "Fantick". At least, I *think* that's what she was saying. It's hard to tell with her. AJB
