MISTIERS: Joel Boutiere TITLE: Dragon Ball Wars by Ali Tavakoly CHARACTERS: Mike, Pearl, Brain Guy and Bobo (Season 8) SUMMARY: In a quiet suburban town, children play, until their father, the great Saiyajin Vegeta, threatens to kill them. His wife, Bulma, likes naming children after lingerie. After witnessing an exciting day of eating breakfast, we take a quick jaunt over to another universe, where Roshi/Kamesenin/Kurririn (this fanfic is big on multiple names) makes a pass at an alternate Bulma, who also names her children after underwear. Her daugher Panty escapes from her planet's destruction by Darth Vader (who is the only cool part of this fanfic), witnesses an apocalyptic fight between two preteens, and does nothing. Fun for the whole family. CATAGORIES: Star Wars, Anime, Crossover HOST SEGMENTS: Opening: Crow and Tom debate: Duke Nukem vs. Quake. Segment 1: Pearl has Observer beam over a Borg to improve Mike's non- existant ratings. He turns out to be a real sourpuss. Segment 2: Mike and the Bots ponder Bulma's underwear obsession, and give themselves new clothing names. Segment 3: Crow is assimilated by the Borg (or so he tries to convince Mike) Eventually, Crow breaks down and it's really pathetic. Segment 4: Inspired by the "fusion dance" performed by two characters in the story, Tom and Crow fuse themselves into one robot. It lasts about 1 minute before they decide they were happier by themselves. REFLECTIONS: After writing this MiSTing, I was e-mailed by Ali, the author, who, if I interpreted his never-capitalized, infrequently-punctuated letter correctly, was basically apologizing for how bad it was. It was kind of refreshing to have someone be such a good sport about it. He's like the Ratliff of Star Wars/Anime crossovers, and I think we should give him a round of applause. On another note, Ali's website says he plans to write another part. Boy, I can't wait. On yet another note. the "broken nail" reference is a reference to a song by KMFDM. Excellent band, pick up one of their thirty or so CDs. CHRONOLOGICAL NOTES: As stated in the MiSTing, this takes place between 815 and 816. RECOMMENDED READING: [none]
