Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis, Dorset, is best known for being the scene of the movie, "French Lieutenant's Woman." In the opening of the movie, Meryl Streep, the heroine, walks out on the storm-swept cob . The cob is an artificial harbor. We visited it in the afternoon, walking from our B&B, the New Haven along a path with beautiful flower beds. From the cob, one can look back at Lyme . As one goes further out onto the cob, the vista becomes more appealing. There is something pleasant about seeing a town from the sea, especially with a seagull and a  boat in the foreground.

Staying at the New Haven, a 18th century house, was pleasant. The  bed was comfortable as well as pretty. We ate dinner across the street at the   Mad Hatter Restaurant. Streets were narrow there too. In the early evening, the view  down our street towards the  bay was warm. In the morning, the light was different. morning and downtown was deserted. So, too, was the old Baptist Church.
