Kintamani

Up

Kintamani is a village right on the edge of Mount Batur's rim, a semi dormant volcano. We were up about 5500 feet or thereabouts and stayed in the hotel in the photo which was right beside Lake Batur. We really did see real Bali life up here. Locals would fish and farm the countryside and would wash themselves naked in the lake as they obviously did not have running water. Life seems relaxed though and technology just doesn't seem to have a place here.

Kintamani is not the best place to visit as it's touristy and busy with peddlers selling their goods, but where we were staying was much quieter.

Oh yeah... we have never ever driven up such steep slopes and tight twisty turns in a vehicle before. It got to be quite scary actually!
