The
L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center's Women's Night is an extraordinary celebration of the
achievements of women. Since the 1980s, lesbians and their supporters have gathered in Los
Angeles to honor women who have made a positive difference in the quality of their lives.
The event is the country's premiere formal dinner, dance and awards night for lesbians.
Women's Night '98 honored Ellen DeGeneres with its Creative Integrity Award, recognizing
her courage in taking such a critical stand for lesbian visibility. Actress Kathy Najimy
(Sister Act and Veronica's Closet) introduced and presented the award to Ms. DeGeneres.
Past Women's Night honorees include k.d.lang, Martina Navratilova, Melissa Etheridge,
Linda Villarosa, Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, the Indigo Girls and Amanda Bearse.
Women's Night raises more than $300,000 annually to support women's services of the L.A.
Gay & Lesbian Center. Programming like the Audre Lorde Lesbian Health Clinic and the
Lesbian Law Project are funded entirely by donors and community events like Women's
Night'98.
