Ethelwyn

Ethelwyn (Wyn) -- Apprentice Master at the SmithCraft Hall

From first glance, you're quite sure that you know this young woman. She's very familiar, with her plain and simple features, shoulder-length brown hair (tied back in a tail), smiling brown eyes. Yes indeed, Ethelwyn is easily someone you could mistake for someone else. She's not beautifull, more attractive in a homely sort of way, like the girl from next door. Reaching about 5'3" in height, she's sturdy and muscular (like many of Telgar breeding), but much more wirey than stocky.
Both delighted and uneasy in her station, Wyn has donned relativly nice clothes. Her tunic is the same off white, neat and precise, but her vest is now of rust-red hide, which accents her shoulders and trim waist. Belted over her deep blue hide pants by a black belt, she looks a proper Smith. The pants are tucked into matching black boots to complete the outfit. The knot on her shoulder is of a Smith Journeyman, but she also wears the badge of Apprentice Master. That might be why she stands with uneasy pride these days.

Born to Gwilym and Marged (minor cotholders at South Telgar), Wyn was tucked right in the middle of all her sibs (so far as she knows, she has 4 older sibs and 4 younger), and thus in the worst position when it came to chores. Not old enough to do the heavy work, too old to be fostered and just old enough to baby sit, her only refuge was with Phillip, a Journeyman smith. Now Phillip was a nice man, and one of his close friends was a woman by the name of Margret. When he'd been posted to South Telgar, he'd made a point of looking up Meg's relatives. Wyn happened to be Meg's cousin.

Meg had been a talented Smith (before impressing at Ista) and Wyn had an interest in Smithing, so Phillip sent her off to the Smith Hall. It was probably the kindest thing anyone could do. Wyn's father and mother didn't much care for Meg, but after she impressed a brown, she was aliviated to the status of honored family. So of course it was allright for Wyn to head off to the Smith Hall.

And she was accepted. Sadly, many apprentices and jounrymen wouldn't associate with her becuase of Meg's legacy (dyed walls, masters and linen), so Wyn was left to work. But those apps were missing out, for Wyn is a bright, witty, intelligant young woman. With her facade of naievety and innocentness, she lacks her cousin's artistic creativity, but more than makes up for it with her practical and intuitve scientific knowledge. Gifted with a talent for math and drafting, the humble child who only wanted to be a farrier is allready finding herself someplace else these days.

Master Webston, the Metal SubCraftMaster, was infuriated when Wyn left him to apprentice out to Master Gadien, of Architecture. But there are many things to design. Buildings, knifes, tables, pullys... Save for the fact that Wyn was a walking catalyst in the Chem lab (she's been known to make things explode just by looking at them), she was well on her way to becoming an all around smith.

After Master Jerika stepped down as CraftMaster, CraftMaster Tanghos promoted her to journeyman AND made her apprentice master. Delighted and confused (how could she be Apprentice MASTER?) Wyn moved into the Journeyman's appartments and began a more hectic life. But one she was delighting in.

Finally, after managing to keep busy enough for three people, Wyn managed to juggles the tasks of being Apprentice master, Journey Man and a 20 turn old. How? She won't say, but after a turn, Wyn made Master in the feild of architecture. She may not have moved out of the Journeyman dorms, but she is Master Wyn.
