Welcome to the world of Jamoncito, his family and friends. There is a picture of the world here. Do you know any of the countries that make up the world? Here you can read, if you come back often, about what Jamoncito and his family and friends get up to. Sometimes they get into a lot of trouble. Do you get in trouble sometimes for being a little too cheeky? Lets begin our journey with Jamoncito. And don't forget to come back as often as you like. If you want you can suggest an adveture for Jamoncito and I will include your name or picture somewhere in the story for other girls and boys to enjoy. But get permission from whoever looks after you first.
A long time ago, in the hills of the mountain range called Sierra Serrano, our friend Jamoncito was born. Sierra is the name for hills in Spanish. The Serrano hills are located in the land of Cordoba in Spain. Cordoba has many nice gardens called patios. See one here. Do any of you know where Spain is? Now would be a good time to ask your teacher. Maybe he or she will teach you a little Spanish one day. It is a very easy language to learn. Click for another picture of Cordoba.
That evening the family Serrano sat down to a quiet dinner.
Mama Serrano was busy eating jamon from her plate. Jamon is the Spanish word for ham. All of a sudden she began to cough on a piece of ham. Click for sound. Guess what popped out of her mouth? Jamoncito of course! How many of you guessed that? Take a look at what he looked like back then. He still looks that way now.

Papa Serrano wanted to rush his wife to hospital for some expert care. But all she wanted to do was eat more ham. What a greedy lady! I hope you are not that greedy when you eat. Talk between yourselves about the proper ways to eat.
Look at how upset Papa Serrano looked after his wife's accident with the ham.

What would you have done? Talk to your teacher about how you would have helped Mama Serrano. Would you have let her eat more ham? What do you think? What do the other children in your class think? Some of the boys and girls think that Mama Serrano should stop eating ham. Yes, I think that would be a good idea too. Maybe she should even drink a glass of water. But slowly!
Later on you will meet Mama Serrano and see what she looks like. You will also learn about Jamoncito's favourite pet, Gato Boca. The word gato is Spanish for cat. Boca means mouth. So at this stage all we know is that Gato Boca has a big mouth. I wonder how big? But Boca is a very strange cat indeed. He does not like fish, but loves to eat jamon instead. What do you think happens when he plays with Jamoncito and gets hungry? How funny it would look to see Jamoncito running away from his favourite pet! You will also learn about hermano Serranito. In Spanish hermano means brother. The ito ending means cute. That means that Jamoncito's brother, Serranito, is cute. You will have to ask for more stories to see what he looks like. How cute do you think he will actually be?
Don't forget to write to me as soon as you can so I can write the next story. I am waiting for your ideas on a new adventure for Jamoncito.
The end - for now!
