Mixed Media

Mixed Media was my 13th photo project.  In this project we had to take black and white pictures, add some color to them, use words (on or beside the picture), and photocopy the picture.

I decided to hand color the pictures with oil paint, photocopy and then mat them.  Then I typed up some of my poems, and part of a song by The Counting Crows (which I used in the second piece below).  After I printed out the poems I tore them out and crumbled them up to give them a rough crinkled texture.  Then I rubber cemented the poems around the pictures on the mats.
I have one more of these that I haven't scanned yet, but I'll put it up as soon I do, so be sure to look for it sometime soon!

The poem reads:

"There are places where one can hide,
where one my rest
and recover.

There are sanctuaries everywhere,
just open your eyes
to the beauty of the night!

This piece features a quote from a song by The Counting Crows called "Color Blind" it reads:

"Stutter shook
and up tight,
Pull me out from inside...

...I am folded,
and unfolded,
and unfolding.

                                            --The Counting Crows"

Note:  The "by David McCoy" at the bottom refers to the fact that I am the artist who made this piece, not the author of the song.

I Understand
The poem reads:

"I know what it's like
to be thrown about the whirlpools
that swirl about the stones.

I know how it feels
to be carried off down stream
in a direction I don't want to go,
and the terror of suddenly

U Left Me Here! Y?!?
The poem reads:

"You never said why
you left me here.
You can hear my screams
yet you refuse to listen.
You can see me,
yet you refuse to help me out.

Y?!?
