Trip to Portugal on summer 2000

On summer 2000 I was working at the university and I had only short summer vacation of about three weeks. I wanted to travel somewhere and I had good memories from last years Solipse festival of Hungary. So, there was a nice sounding, six days goatrance festival called Boomfestival 2000 in Portugal and there I was to go... But flight ticket to Portugal was quite expensive and I considered other ways to get there. Interrail would have been one possibility if I have had more time to use. I tried to organize a group flight, but it was holiday season and there was no considerable discounts for groups. And I had hitch-hiked last year, so I wanted something different this year. Luckily I found about my fathers positive attitude about lending his car for this trip and quick calculations showed that going by car would be much cheaper than flying.

The car we were going to use was Toyota Hiace. It had the capacity of 10 people, but we decided to take only six people with us, because we were about to drive long periods of time, even through nights, and it would have been rather unpleasant to travel by sitting tighly and having no room to move at all. I got two companions right away, namely Janne and Atte, who are studying at the same university as I. They were also both my old friends and we had already been going to parties in Finland for a long time. Other three travel companions I found from Internet. I met Salla in a forest party little before setting of, but I hadn't met Marko and Hanni until we were already on our way. But hey, it's nice to go travelling with total strangers and there's plenty of time to get know each others on the way...
