Get Real is about the struggle over coming out of the closet. Since I was struggling over coming out as well, I really wanted to see this film and I'm glad I did. It was a decent film about the struggles gay high school students have to go through. The movie follows the main character, Steven Carter, as he seeks out love and runs head into their school's star athlete, John. The only problem is that Steven doesn't care if people find out that he's gay while John is not quite ready to come out of the closet. Steven and John do get together a couple of times and both of them seem to want a real relationship, but the closet walls prevent John from going any farther than midnight glances and a one-night stand.
Get Real is a british film, and you have to put up with the British accents and slang, but it's fairly easy to follow. It's a romantic comedy with bittersweet reality sewn in. If nothing else, the movie will show you the hardships that come with a closeted life. I have to give it four stars. If it ever comes out in theaters in your area, be sure to check it out.
