The Liberal

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who have no hope. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." - Proverbs 31:8-9

"It's better to give than to receive." "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." We've all heard the qoutes. But you know, there's some truth to it. When we look out for other people we end up being happier ourselves. Politics is about trying to make the world a better place. So although some still say that one vote isn't going to make much of a difference I turn out at every election and I vote for the candidate who I feel will try and make this world better than it currently is.

The Issues

Human Rights - Racism and Ethnocentricity, Sexism and Homophobia -- they've all got to go. We can't afford to treat anyone as a second-class citizen.

Gay Rights - Anti-Discrimination Laws, Legal Marriage, Adoption Rights, Anti-Hate Bills -- without them how can anyone claim we're treated equal.

The Other World - America is not the only country that deserves rights. Nationalism is a euphemism for ethnocentricity. Closed-borders serve only to make enemies. English is not this countries native language. Helping other countries is our business. We live on the earth together -- break down every wall that says otherwise.

Earth Respect - We don't own the earth. We need to quit acting like we do. Factory farms have got to go. Basical animal rights need to be protected. Ecosystems must be maintained, not destroyed.

Peace Initiatives - Killing people in the name of peace makes no sense. The are better ways of doing things than killing everyone you don't like. Weapons should be used defensively only, never aimed at human lives. Be all that you can be without ever supporting the US Army.

Crime and Punishment - The death penalty is cruel and must be stopped -- too many innocent people are killed, too many lives with potential are cut short. We don't need truth-in-sentencing, it comes too late, we need more prevention and more education. People with guns do kill. The NRA is Satan.

Poverty - Poverty and laziness are not synonyms. We do have a responsibility for the people we let fall through the cracks. Programs that encourage selfishness among the rich lead to the poverty of the poor.
