Movies

I watch a lot of movies and I certianly don't have time to review them all. But below you can see what I've been watching and what I thought of them.

In Theatres

The Blair Witch Project -
This was such a waste of time. It was absolutely NOT scarry. It was boring, dull, and dumb. Save your money.

The Sixth Sense -
This movie was okay, but it was sort of dumb at times and slow at other times. It's okay, but there are better ones out.

Tarzan -
I loved Tarzan. It was such a cute movie. Go see it. Support Disney.

Star Wars Episode One -
Blah. This did not live up to the hype. I used to love Star Wars. Maybe I've grown out of it. Or maybe this movie was just dumb.

On Video

The Wedding Singer -
A wonderful romantic comedy staring my two favorite actors. Sandler is great! Go rent it, go buy it.

Object Of My Affection -
I loved this movie! It's one of the very few movies that I actually bought. A cute love story about a gay man and the woman who wants him to raise her kid.

Beautiful Thing -
A great coming of age film about gay youth. Like most coming of age films for gay youth it's fairly sad. Two male students at a boarding school fall in love, but only one of them is certain of his sexuality.

Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss -
A cool movie about a gay man (Sean Hayes) who falls for a gorgeous guy but isn't sure if he's gay or straight. Funny, sexy, romantic, sometimes sad. A good date movie for young gay men.

And The Band Played On -
A good movie about the outbreak of AIDS in the United States in the early 80's during the Reagan Administration. It takes an honest look at the red tape that caused AIDS reasearch to be ignored, postponed, and cut. It's a really good movie.

Johns -
An excellent movie that takes an honest look into the world of two male prostitutes. Kicked out of home with only one thing--your body, what do you do? Plan A, get a job. No jobs? Plan B, head to the city and pray for help. Reality C, sex pays.

Boy's Life -
Three very good short 30-minute movies about gay adolescence. The stories take place in high school and college, from the 1970's through the present and deal with the same subjects that every young gay person has to deal with. From overcoming denial, to the pains of the closet, the hardships of coming out. Three short looks into the lives of three gay young adults.

Threesome -
I was surprised by this movie. I thought it was going to be perverted and wierd, but it wasn't, it was actually pretty good. It's just a lighthearted fun movie about three college roomates and their love triangle--one gay male, one straight male, and one straight female.

Together Alone -
This would be an excellent movie for a gay & lesbian teen/college support group. Rather than being a movie with an actual plot and such, it's just two guys who have just had sex (a one-night stand) talking about a whole variety of topics. Everything from "don't you care about AIDS" to "there's no such thing as a bisexual" to "would you take a pill to make you straight" and many other topics that gay men, lesbians, and bisexuals all deal with are presented in this conversation between these two gay men.

Bent -
We all know about the horrors that were committed against Jews in Nazi concentration camps, but we rarely hear about the other prisoners in those camps. Bent takes a look into the life of those forced to wear the pink triangle for the crimes of being called "perverts"--otherwise known as gay men. A sad movie with little to uplift, but a movie that should be seen. The sex-without-touching scenes may be a little too queer for non-gay audiences, but I guess that's why they were killed--their love was too queer for straights to understand.

It's My Party -
A good movie about a man who dies of aids. It would have been excellent if it had been directed better and if more time would have been spent on character development towards the beginning of the film rather than towards the end. Still a sad and touching film.

The Lost Language Of Cranes -
This was a good movie about a father and son who both come to grips about their homosexuality. After the son comes out to his parents the father is forced to search his own heart. The metaphor of the cranes was dumb and should have been left out, but it was still a good move. If only they had more money to make it a better quality film.

Wild Reeds -
This was a decent french film (with subtitles) about a gay high school student who falls in love with one of his friends. An interesting coming of age film about misunderstood love.

Go -
A weird movie about a drug trade that goes wrong. Someone told me it was their favorite movie, and two of the main actors play a young gay couple, but I just didn't care for the movie. It was too odd, and the story line was dumb.

Boyfriends -
This might have been a decent movie if more money was put into it. The quality of this film was terrible. I hate films with bad lighting. But it also lacked a decent story line. It's basically a week in the life of several different gay couples. What's the point.

The Opposite Of Sex -
Boring. Not every movie geared towards gay audiences is good, and this proves it. I just didn't get this movie.
