Journals of a Gay Vegan: Introspection
For The Children

"Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name is welcoming me, and anyone who is welcoming me is welcoming my Father who sent me!" - Mark 9:37

I recently started sponsoring a child through World Vision. His name is Endris Arage. He's from Ethiopa. He is 6 years old and he was born on January 10, 1993. Kids are so cute and Endris is no exception. Here's a picture:

From the sponsorship package: "Endris lives in a poor area with his parents. They are struggling to make ends meet because there are few job opportunities in this area. Your sponsorship will not only help to provide this family with their basic needs, but will also enable them to develop their skills in a World Vision training program."

Endris recently wrote me the following letter via a translator:

Dear Sponsor,

I feel great pleasure to write you this letter.

My name is Arage Endris. I live with my parents. My mother is a housewife. She does most of the cooking and cleaning. My father is a poor farmer. He has one ox by which he grows crops and make our living.

We dwell in a small farm village located at 325kms north east of the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. It experiences a hot-wet climate. The common types of crops grown are maize, sorphum and teft (local cereal).

We have our own dwelling hut which is wooden walled and grass roofed. We are supplied with pipewater. But we still use kerosene lamp for our home light.

I have one elder brother and one younger sister by name Ahmed and Hawa. They are 11 and 1 respectively.

Till we meet through the next letter, peace be with you.

So long!
